TRAFFORD, Pa. (Jan. 26) -- Thiel College freshman wrestler Jonathan Bissell (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Wrestler of the Week following his strong showing at Saturday's Jamestown Community College Open.

The honor is Bissell's second of the year, as he was named the PAC Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 10.

At 149, Bissell placed second in a 26-wrestler field loaded with strong JUCO and DII programs. He opened the day with a pin (1:36) over Cam Ingram (Niagara CC) and a second pin (2:05) of Xavier Dombkowski (Mercyhurst) to advance to the quarterfinals. There, he posted a 20-4 technical fall (6:54) over Noah Obinna (Garrett) then a 10-8 decision over Nikolas Fegert (Pitt-Bradford) to book his ticket to the championship bout where he ultimately dropped a 17-5 major decision to Kyle Blzjak (John Carroll).

Bissell also had a win by forfeit in a 45-3 PAC victory over Bethany Wednesday.

For the year, Bissell sits at 15-5 with a team-leading 10 pins. He also has one win each by tech. fall, major decision and decision. Bissell placefd fifth at the season-opening W&J Invitational on Nov. 8 and also had a sixth-place showing at the BW Invitational on Nov. 23.

The Mat Cats are back in action Friday for a 7 p.m. PAC showdown at W&J.
