GROVE CITY, Pa. (Sept. 20) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory at Grove City College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) North Division action Saturday afternoon from College Arena.
The Tomcats move to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in league play with set score wins of 19-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-13 while the Wolverines fall to 6-3 (0-2) on the season.
Grove City led 17-11 in set two before a 4-0 Thiel spurt expanded into an 8-1 run that put the Tomcats ahead 19-18.
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) had three straight kills in the spurt to knot things at 18 while a
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) kill made it a 1-point Thiel lead. The Wolverines responded with 3 unanswered before the the Blue and Gold notched 6 of the final 7 points in the frame to even the match.
Amory posted a career-best 14 kills and hit .500, also a career best, from the right pin.
Jenness posted a match-leading 19 kills on .267 from the outside along with nine digs and one ace.
Thiel trailed 11-10 in set three, but an
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) kill spearheaded a 7-1 spurt that ended on a Jenness kill. The home side got within 4 at 18-14, but the visitors put up 7 of the final 10 points to pull ahead 2-1.
DeLattre logged seven kills from the middle on .375 to go with a career-high-tying and match-high-tying three aces.
A 3-1 Thiel run capped with an ace and kill from
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) made it 14-8 Tomcats in set four. A 6-0 Thiel spurt grew the lead 22-12, and an Amory-DeLattre combo block capped a 9-1 match-ending run for the Tomcats.
Jordan pitched in eight kills and trio of digs from the outside.
Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) also added a trio of kills from the middle.
Thiel held a 16-14 edge in set one before Grove City logged 5-of-6 and 7-of-9 to lead 21-18. The Wolverines ended the set with a 4-0 run to go ahead 1-0.
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge) dug a match-best 17 balls and served three aces.
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) added 13 digs along with 42 assists for her fourth straight double-double performance and seventh of the season.
Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) added a career-best seven digs.
Thiel held a 55-46 edge in digs and won the battle at the service line with 10 aces to Grove City's five.
The Tomcats return to action next Wednesday against PAC-foe Geneva College from Maenpa Court at 7 p.m.
