Women's Volleyball sweeps Geneva; moves to 3-0 in PAC

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 24) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team swept Geneva College Wednesday evening on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The Tomcats rise to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in league play, there best start to conference action since 2022, with set score wins of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-11. The Golden Tornadoes fall to 3-13 (0-3).

Thiel dug a season-best 80 balls in the victory as four Tomcats posted double-digit-dig performances.

Thiel used a 3-1 spurt in set one as Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) tallied all three Tomcat kills in the run to grow the Thiel lead to 19-14. Geneva used a 4-1 spurt to knot things at 21, but the Blue and Gold ended the frame with a 4-1 run of its own to take the set and go up 1-0. Thiel had two blocks in the run as Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) combined for one while Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) and DeLattre had the other.

Jenness posted match bests in kills (17) and digs (18) for her fourth double-double of the season as she hit .265 from the left pin. Her 18 digs were one short of her career high of 19. 

Jordan totaled 11 kills on a career-best .455 (min. 10 swings) while digging five balls.

DeLattre totaled six kills, six digs and a match-best three block assists while Reynolds had contest bests in assists (42) and aces (three) while adding five digs and two block assists.

The Tomcats used a 3-1 run to grow an 18-14 lead in set two as Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) and Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) each had kills in the run. Geneva got within 1 at 21-20 and 22-21, but the home side ended the frame with 3 of the final 4 points as Amory added two more kills, including the set-clincher, to put Thiel up 2-0.

Amory and Stephens each racked up seven kills. Stephens hit .500 from the middle while Amory sat at .211 and dug three balls. 

The Tomcats cruised to victory in set three as they led by as many as 15 (20-5) and held Geneva to .074 hitting in the frame. Thiel hit .500 in the match-clinching set with 14 kills and one error on 26 swings.

Thiel held an 80-68 edge in digs as Alex Ball (Clymer, Pa./Indiana Area) had 17, one shy of her career high (18). Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge) added 14 digs while Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) had a career-pacing 11.

The Tomcats hit a season-best-tying .284 and held Geneva to .111. 

Thiel returns to action Friday for a PAC clash at Washington & Jefferson beginning at 7 p.m.
