GREENVILLE, Pa. (June 24) -- Thiel College Track and Field competitors
Brooke Griffith (Chicora, Pa./Karns City),
Nicholas Kobielus (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex Area) and
Sha'nia Stiers-Royal (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown-Fitch) have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.
The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and/or in the field and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and must be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically.
Griffith, a junior health systems major, boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. She placed 17th at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Championships in the 3000m steeplechase with a PR of 13:48.98. Her finish was the 50th best in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region. Griffith also brought home the silver at the Dan Kinsey Invitational in the 3000m with a 12:56.26 PR during the indoor season.
Kobielus, an exercise science major, graduated with a 3.70 GPA. He placed first in the javelin at the Westminster Invitational with a 53.90m PR throw, which was 16th best in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Kobielus finished 8th in the shot put at IUP's Ed Fry Invitational with a 12.97m throw. That throw was the 32nd longest in the region.
During the indoor campaign, he logged a 13.20m throw in the shot put at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational to place 8th at the meet and 28th in the region.
Stiers-Royal, a psychology major, boasted a 3.58 GPA. She PR'd and placed second in the high jump at the PAC Outdoor Championships with a 1.60m jump. Her jump was seventh best in the region and 76th best in all of Division III. At the Grove City Mini Invitational, Stiers-Royal finished sixth with a 4.88m long jump, which was 47th best in the region.
The Tomcats will be under the direction of a new Director of Track & Field/Country in the 2025-26 year. The announcement of the new director will be made in the near future.
