4th-quarter run dooms Men's Lacrosse at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 5) -- The Thiel College Men's Lacrosse team dropped a road Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) clash to Washington and Jefferson College 19-13 Saturday evening at Alexandre Stadium.

The Tomcats fall to 1-9 (0-3) while the Presidents rise to 5-6 (1-2).

Thiel struck less than a minute into the game as Logan Millie (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) found the net off of a Thadd Bell (Erie, Pa./McDowell) assist to make it 1-0. W&J tallied the next three goals before Millie posted two more for a first-quarter hat trick to even things at 3. The Presidents snuck two more in before back-to-back Bell goals evened things at 5 with 5:10 left in the second quarter. A pair of Zach Melin (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) goals within 20 seconds of each other late in the half sent the two sides into the intermission even at 8.

Millie finished with a career-best seven goals and points each along with three ground balls. Bell continued his solid play with three goals and two helpers for 5 points.

The two sides went back and forth trading goals in the third quarter as a Melin goal evened things at 11 and a Millie man-down goal knotted things at 12 with 5:02 left in the third. The Presidents added 1 more in the third to lead 13-12 heading to the fourth. The home side went on to score six straight goals in the final quarter to pull ahead by 7. Millie netted his final goal of the day late in the game to spell the 19-13 final.

Melin totaled three goals in the defeat. He has tallied at least two goals in four consecutive games.

Austin Parker (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) continued his domination on the ground as he won 23-of-34 faceoffs (67.6 percent) for his 3rd 20-plus faceoff win performance in the last 4 games. He added a game-best 13 ground balls and dished out one assist. Parker has corralled at least 13 ground balls in 3 of the last 4 games.

Ethan Narby (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) made 20 saves in goal for his sixth 20-plus save game this year. Narby sits at 190 saves this season and is poised to break Justin Masciantonio's 2022 program record for saves in a season (210).

Men's Lacrosse returns to action next Saturday for a noon PAC clash at Allegheny College.
