BOARDMAN, Ohio (April 25) -- The Thiel College Men's Golf team posted a 43-stroke round-over-round improvement in round three of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Friday from Millcreek Golf Course-South in Boardman, Ohio.
The PAC Men's Golf Championships features a 72-hole stroke play event, beginning with 36 holes played in the fall at Avalon Lakes in Warren, Ohio and the final 36 holes played in the spring at Millcreek Golf Course-South.
The Tomcats totaled 309 strokes on the day, a 43-stroke improvement from round two when they fired 352 strokes. Thiel sits at +137 for the four-round tournament, which is six behind Waynesburg (+131) for eighth.
Jackson Gadsby (Sandy Lake, Pa./Lakeview) led the Tomcats on the day with 75 strokes to shoot five-over and sit at 29th. He parred the final eight holes on the front nine to shoot a one-over 36. He added five pars on the back nine and logged 39 strokes.
Eli Nicklas (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) was not far behind as he posted a six-over 76. He is tied for 30th in the championship. Nicklas birdied the par-three 13th and shot a two-over 37 on the back nine with five pars. He logged six pars on the front nine.
Patrick Belback (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) and
Marc Knox (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) each carded 79 strokes to shoot nine-over. Belback birdied the par-five 14th and totaled seven pars for the round, six of which came on the first nine, as he is tied with Nicklas for 30th. Knox finished with nine pars and nine-bogeys each on the day as he stands 27th in the field.
Joe Grundy (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) birdied the par-four second and totaled five pars to shoot an 86.
The Tomcats continue play in round four of the PAC Championships tomorrow at 10 a.m. from Millcreek Golf Course-South.
