GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College Softball team took game two 6-5 in the sixth inning to split with Waynesburg University Wednesday afternoon at Tomcat Park.
Thiel advances to 13-11 on the regular season and 7-7 in conference play, as Waynesburg drops to 22-10 overall and 8-7 in the PAC.
Game 1
Waynesburg took a quick 1-0 in the first then ran in seven runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 13-0 win in game one.
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) and Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) each had one hit in the game, Heid with a double.
Pitcher Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) threw for six innings and had six strikeouts.
Game 2
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) singled to right field to advance Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) to third, Stehlik brought home from Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) when she singled up the middle taking tying 1-1
Heid bombed a home run to right center field for a two run RBI to take the 3-1 lead.
Waynesburg bounced back in the fourth and top of the fifth taking the 5-3 lead from a nine-batter rally.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Heid hit her second home run of the game to bring in Risser for the tying run.
Rylie Fordyce (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) pinch hit in the fifth bringing home Dani Ficeti (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) for the winning run after hitting a deep double down the left field line.
After being scoreless in the sixth, Thiel was able to hold off the Yellow Jackets in the top of the seventh, leaving the winning runs on second and third base.
Heid went 3-3 with two home runs and four RBIs at crucial moments while Risser had two hits, a run and a stolen base.
Herman threw for a complete game and had three strikeouts.
The Tomcats returned to action on Thursday, April 17 when they travel to Hiram, Ohio to take on the Terriers. Thiel's non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
