HIRAM, Ohio – The Thiel College Softball team drops their non-conference doubleheader at Hiram College 11-3 and 5-1 Thursday afternoon.
Thiel drops to 13-13 overall as Hiram advances to 17-7.
Game 1
Hiram scored four runs in the third off a single and double to the outfield.
In the top of the sixth, Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) singled to left field for a base hit and was advanced to second from Ava Gilmore (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex Area). Heid scored off a single by Dani Ficeti (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) to center field for Thiel's lone run.
Haylie Kidd (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) and Sheila Despenes (Townville, Pa./Maplewood) each added a hit in the game.
Alaina Fedder (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) threw for 6.0 innings and had two strikeouts.
Game 2
Thiel scored two runs in the seventh and one in the six but was not enough to catch up to the Terriers.
Kidd hit a triple to deep center field and was brought home from an error by the shortstop and Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) advanced to second.
Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) scored off an RBI ground out from Despenes, Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) advancing to third. Rottman scored off a single to right field from Fedder.
Rottman had two hits and a run, Ficeti and Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) added a hit as well.
Fedder threw for 5.2 innings and had two strikeouts.
The Tomcats are back in action on Friday, April 18 when they travel to Washington, Pa. to take on the Presidents'. The PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at UPMC Park.
