GREENVILLE, Pa. --The Thiel College Softball team dropped their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader 4-0 and 4-1 to Allegheny College Sunday afternoon at Tomcat Park.
Thiel falls to 12-10 on the season and 6-6 in conference play as the Gators advance to 16-12 overall and 9-5 in the PAC.
Game 1
The Gators got on the board early with three runs at the top of the first inning with three runs. Allegheny then score one run in the top of the seventh to make a final 4-0 victory.
Through the rest of the six innings, both teams had very few hits and could not produce runs on the board.
Ava Gilmore (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex Area) hit a double to left center field in the bottom of the third inning but was left on base.
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic), Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), Dani Ficeti (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) each had a single on the day.
Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) through a complete game with 121 pitches and 10 strikeouts. Game one was Landis' third time throwing 10 or more strikeouts in a game this season.
Game 2
Herman doubled to right field and advanced to third from a passed ball by the catcher. Rottman singled to left field to bring Herman home and give Thiel their only run.
Allegheny scored one run in the sixth and seventh innings after holding Thiel scoreless in the five innings.
Ficeti and Gilmore added one hit each.
Herman pitched for a complete game with 84 pitches and two strikeouts.
The Tomcats return for action on Tuesday, April 15 when they host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at home. The PAC doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Softball Field at Tomcat Park.
