CRESSON, Pa, -- The Thiel College Women's Lacrosse team secured their eighth win against Mount Aloysius College 17-5 Tuesday night at Kelly Field.
Thiel advances to 8-1 on the season, as Mount Aloysius falls to 2-5 overall.
The Tomcats took the early lead in the first quarter with six unassisted goals, four of them from senior Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler), one from Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) and Hayden Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler).
Garlick added three in the third and one in the fourth to give her a career-high of five goals in a game. Garlick grabbed a game high seven draw controls, also giving her the most she has had in a game in ger career.
Ashlyn had four more goals in the second quarter to make her total of eight in the game, along with three ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Her third ground ball of the game gave her a career total of 244, breaking Thiel's record for ground balls in a career.
Jade Mazzoni (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) had a pair of goals on the night and Fiona Shaffer (Fairmount City, Pa./Redbank Valley) added one herself in the second quarter to give Thiel the 11-2 lead.
Goalkeeper Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) was faced with 18 shots on goal, making 13 saves and grabbing three ground balls.
Mount Aloysius struck back in the third with two goals but that was not enough to catch up to Thiel's dominant first half.
The Tomcats are back in action on Saturday, April 5 when they travel to New Wilmington, Pa. To take on the Westminster Titans. Thiel will look to get another PAC win on the road at 4 p.m. at UPMC Sports Complex.
