Wightman records 300th career goal, sets multiple schools records in Tomcats win over Bobcats

Wightman becomes first Tomcat to eclipse 300 career goals

BUCKHANNON, W.V. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats, 20-9, on the road Saturday evening.

Thiel held a 5-4 advantage after the first quarter behind three goals from Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and one goal apiece from Jade Mazzoni (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Salem) and Shayla Foster (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool).

Thiel would add five goals in the second quarter, with four coming from Wightman and the one from Mazzoni.

An eight-goal third quarter would put the game out of reach, propelling the Tomcats' to their third straight win to open the 2025 season.

Wightman recorded her 300th career goal, becoming the first Tomcat in program history to reach the 300-goal plateau. Along with her 300th-career goal, Wightman also broke two school records.

Wightman scored 14 goals in the win, breaking the previous record of 13 held by Mackenzie Quinn. Wightman also recorded 15 points, breaking the previous record of 14, also held by Quinn. Wightman also added six draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Briney Stilinovich (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) added one goal and one assist, while Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) added one goal and three helpers. She also won four draw controls, and caused four turnovers. Foster added one goal and two caused turnovers.

In goal for the Tomcats, Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) recorded nine saves.

The Tomcats will look to extend their winning streak to four games when they travel to Notre Dame (Md.) on Tuesday. The non-conference tilt is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
