GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College Women's Lacrosse team picked up their second win of the season 16-3 over the Alfred State Pioneers Thursday evening at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
The Tomcats advance to 2-0 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 0-2.
Senior Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) set the most assists in a game record with seven. She dished out five to Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler), one to Hayden Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and one to Briney Stilinovich (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos).
The Tomcats took an early lead in the first quarter with 2 goals in the first five minutes of the contest, ultimately leading 3-0 at the end of the first.
Stilinovich popped out with three goals in the second quarter and freshman Jade Mazzoni (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Salem) scored her first collegiate goal in the final minutes of the first half to make it 9-1.
Wightman found the back of the net three times in the third and twice in the fourth, to add to Thiel's score. She had a game high 11 points, with nine goals and two assists, along with nine draw controls.
Goalkeeper Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made nine saves on the night and picked up two ground balls.
The Tomcats are back in action on Saturday, March 8 when they travel to Buckhannon, Md. To match-up against West Virginia Wesleyan. The nonconference contest will begin at 5 p.m.
