KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- The Thiel College Women's Lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season in a thrilling 9-8 victory over the Keuka College Wolves Tuesday evening.
The Tomcats advance to 1-0 on the regular season, while the Wolves fall to 0-2.
With her first save of the night, goalkeeper Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) set the all-time career saves record with 356. Liggett made 11 saves on the night and picked up four ground balls.
After trailing 3-0 in the first 5-2 at the half, Thiel bounced back with 4 goals to take the lead 6-5, keeping Keuka to zero points in the third.
Senior Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) picked up a team high four goals, five draw controls and dished out the lonely assist to Briney Stilinovich (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) in the bottom of the third. On the defensive end, Wightman had five caused turnovers and eight ground balls.
Both teams went back and forth throughout the last quarter, but Wightman secured the game winning score with four minutes remaining in the contest.
Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) added two goals, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls, while Hayden Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and Meg Gill (Columbia, S.C./Blythewood) each had a goal themselves.
The Tomcats are back in action Thursday, March 6 at 4:00 p.m. when they host Alfred State at home.
