Men's Lacrosse battles Bethany in entertaining showdown

GREENVILLE, Pa. (March 29) -- The Thiel College Men's Lacrosse team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) battle with Bethany College 21-16 Saturday afternoon at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.

The Tomcats drop to 1-7 (0-1) on the year while the Bison rise to 5-5 (1-1).

Logan Millie (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) got the scoring started for Thiel 1:05 into the game to make it 1-0. Bethany answered with the next four goals in the period, but the Tomcats tied things at 4 with goals from Thadd Bell (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Zach Melin (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) and Justin Mason (Alden, N.Y./Alden Central). Trailing 8-5, consecutive goals from Millie, Bell and Melin brought Thiel even at 8 heading into the half.

Melin finished with four goals and six ground balls while Millie had four goals and a pair of assists to tie his career-best mark in points (6). Millie also corralled a career-best 12 ground balls.

Bell logged four goals and a helper to finish with 5 points along with three ground balls. Mason had a goal and was 1-for-3 on faceoffs.

A Joey King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) goal put Thiel ahead 11-10 in the third but Bethany answered with a pair to pull back ahead 12-11. Bell notched his second goal of the quarter to even things at 12 and send the game into the last 15 minutes gridlocked. A Bethany score made it 13-12 1:33 into the fourth, but 57 seconds later Melin tied things at 13. The visitors tallied 6 of the next 7 goals and 8 of the final 11 to claim the 21-16 win.

King finished with a career-best two goals and caused a pair of turnovers. Quentin Cato (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) added a goal and pair of ground balls. 

Austin Parker (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood), the reigning PAC Specialist of the Week, won a game-best 23 faceoffs and corralled a game-pacing 14 ground balls. 

Ethan Narby (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) stopped a career-high-tying 22 shots but was ultimately pinned with the loss.
