Softball splits 1-1, Tomcats take 10-0 victory over Penn State Dubois

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH S.C. -- The Thiel College Softball team split 1-1 on their final day with FDU-Florham and Penn State Dubois. The Tomcats lost 5-4 in extra innings to the Devils and took the 10-0 victory against the Lions Friday morning at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.  

The Tomcats advance to 6-2 on the regular season as the Lions fall to 2-4-1 and the Devils advance to 7-4.  

Game 1 

The Tomcats took the lead in the fourth inning when freshman Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) slammed a triple to right field, bringing Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) and Makenna Oswalt (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) home to make the score 4-1. 

Risser had two hits and three RBIs, while Rottman, Herman, Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia), Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley), and Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) all had one.  

The Devils ultimately took the win 5-4 in extra innings after tying the game in the bottom of the seventh from three singles to the outfield. FDU-Florham had a sacrifice bunt and fly in the eighth to bring the runner on second home.  

Game 2 

In the top of the first, Risser hit a triple deep to left field, followed by a single from Heid and triple from Herman to make the score 2-0. Rottman doubled to center field and Leigha Kayser (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) hit a single to right, bringing Herman and Rottman to end the inning 4-0. 

Herman, Heid, and Kayser each had two hits on the day, and Heid brought in three RBIs.  

Risser bombed another triple off the first pitch to centerfield to start off the top of the fourth inning and was brought home by an error to up the score to 6-0. Risser had three hits and an RBI, including two triples to the outfield.  

Stehlik then scored due to a fielder's choice throw to home but was ruled safe. Herman doubled to left field bringing Heid home to make the score 8-0.  

Herman pitched 5.0 innings and threw a no hitter on 85 pitches. 

Looking Ahead 

The Tomcats are back in action on Saturday, March 22nd when they travel to Grove City, Pa. to take on the Wolverines for their first conference game of the season. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) double header will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
