LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 4) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team posted a convincing sweep at Saint Vincent College Saturday evening in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) cross-divisional action from the Robert S. Carey Center.
The Tomcats improve to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in league play with set score wins of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-20 as they retain first in the PAC North via the head-to-head tiebreaker with Hiram. The Bearcats drop to 3-9 (2-4).
Thiel held a 14-10 set-three lead on a
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) /
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) combo block. A 3-1 spurt gave Thiel a 17-13 edge before Saint Vincent answered with 5 of the next 6 to get within 1 at 20-19. The Tomcats closed the match on a 5-1 run as DeLattre had a pair of kills in the run and Jordan sealed the sweep with an ace.
DeLattre totaled a team-pacing 11 kills on a career-best .556. She added a trio of digs and blocks (2 BS, 1 BA) each to run her career total to 197 total blocks.
Jordan posted 10 kills and just one error on .391 from the outside to go with a career-pacing seven digs and a match-high-tying two aces.
With
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge) at the service line in set one, Thiel used a 5-0 run to lead 11-6. The run grew to 10-3 and was capped with a DeLattre kill to make it 16-9. The home side got within 4 at 20-16, but Thiel tallied 5 of the final 8 points in the frame, the last 2 coming on
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) kills, to take the opening set.
Aulet dug a match-best 20 balls for her third straight match with at least 20 digs. She added an ace in the sweep. Jenness hammered home nine kills and dug 10 balls for her fourth straight 10-plus-dig effort.
The Blue and Gold used a 3-0 run kickstarted by a
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) kill to lead 11-6 in set two. Following consecutive Bearcats' points, Thiel used a 7-0 run to grow its lead to 18-8.
Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) added a kill late in the frame as Thiel hit .379 in set two while holding Saint Vincent to .056 en route to the 2-0 lead.
Amory put up five kills on .250 to go with two blocks (1 BS, 1 BA) and digs each. Stephens also had five kills along with two blocks (1 BS, 1 BA).
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) dished out a match-leading 36 assists as her offense hit .211 in the sweep. Reynolds added 10 digs for her team-best ninth double-double.
Defensively, Thiel held the edge in digs 61-51 as
Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) had seven and
Alex Ball (Clymer, Pa./Indiana Area) added three. The Tomcats held the Bearcats to .075 hitting as the Blue and Gold totaled six blocks (4 BS, 4 BA).
The Tomcats look to make it three in a row they host reigning-PAC champions Allegheny next Wednesday on Maenpa Court at 7 p.m.
