Thiel bests Allegheny in 4

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 8) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team posted a four-set victory over Allegheny College Wednesday evening in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) North Division action on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.

The Tomcats run their winning streak to three with set score wins of 13-25, 25-21, 25-11 and 25-16 as they improve to 11-4 (6-1) and remain atop the PAC North. The Gators, reigning PAC champions, fall to 9-9 (3-4).

Leading the match 2-1, Thiel used a 7-1 run that had a pair of kills from Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) to pull ahead 17-8. Allegheny logged 4-of-5 late in the set to get within 6 at 22-16, but a 3-0 Thiel run capped with combo blocks from DeLattre / Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) and DeLattre / Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) sealed the four-set Thiel win.

DeLattre totaled three stuffs for the contest (1 BS, 2 BA) as the match-point block was the 200th in her Thiel career. She is now 1 of just 11 players in program history to reach the 200-block plateau. DeLattre added 10 kills on .348, served a pair of aces and had a trio of digs. 

Trailing 1-0 in the match, Thiel rattled off 6 in a row with the last three coming on Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) aces to make it 11-5. Allegheny cobbled together 7-of-10 to get withing 3 at 19-16, but a Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) kill got Thiel to 20-16. The visitors used a 4-0 spurt to make it 22-21 Tomcats, but a Jordan kill sandwiched between a pair of Allegheny errors evened the match at 1.

Jenness posted a match-best 18 kills on .261 to go with a pair of digs and a block. Jordan logged 10 kills on .280 from the left pin and dug a career-best eight balls while serving two aces.

The Tomcats never trailed in set three as they jumped to a 10-2 lead on an Amory / Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) combo block. The Blue and Gold hit .485 in the frame and limited the Gators to .031 en route to the 2-1 lead.

Amory posted 13 kills as she took a career-high 34 swings and hit .176. The sophomore added three blocks and two digs. Stephens had a pair of blocks and digs each out of the middle.

Allegheny controlled the opening frame with strong service pressure as they never trailed and held Thiel to .172 while hitting .542.

The Tomcats won the defensive battle with 66 digs to the Gators' 54. Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge), the reigning PAC Defensive Player of the Week, posted a match-leading 22 digs for her fourth straight 20-plus dig match. She added two aces.

Alex Ball (Clymer, Pa./Indiana Area) added nine digs while Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) had six and Macie Williams (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) had five. 

Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) distributed a match-pacing 45 assists and had a match-high three aces while digging eight balls. 

Thiel had nine aces while Allegheny, after serving three in the first set, finished with five.

The Tomcats return to Maenpa Court Friday evening in cross-divisional PAC action against Waynesburg University at 7.
