GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College Men's Soccer team dropped their final home contest of the season 5-2 to Allegheny College Saturday night at Alumni Stadium.
The Tomcats fall to 4-12-1 (1-8-1) on the regular season as the Gators advance to 8-7-4 (6-3-1)
Thiel got on the board early with a deep free kick from sophomore
Andy Mangold (Bradford, Pa./Bradford Area). Allegheny responded two minutes later to tie the game 1-1.
Mason Melaragno (Erie, Pa./Fairview) got his first collegiate goal in the 15th minute of the game off an assist from
Micah Fortney (Palmyra, Pa./Mount Calvary Christian). The Gators were awarded a penalty kick and tied things back up to end the half at 2-2.
Allegheny came hot out the gate and scored three unanswered goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to make the score 5-2.
Mangold led the offense with three shots, as Melaragno had two.
Grant Becker (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) and
Giovanni Rossi Jr. (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) each had a shot as well.
Freshman goalkeeper
Dylan Budziak (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) was faced with 21 shots (11 on goal) and made six saves.
The Tomcats return to action on Wednesday, October 29th as they travel to Bethany College for their final match of the year. The conference contest will begin at 4 p.m.
