BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 15) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball cruised to its fifth straight win with a sweep over Geneva College Wednesday evening in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) North Division action from Metheny Fieldhouse.
The Tomcats improve to 13-4 overall and 8-1 in league play with set-score wins of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-12 for their third straight series win over the Golden Tornadoes (4-17, 1-8).
Thiel used a 6-1 set-one run that had a trio of aces, two of which came from
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton), to pull ahead 10-5. Geneva got as close as 15-14 before the Tomcats rattled off 4 of the next 5 and 10 of the last 14 to take the set and go up 1-0.
The Tomcats logged 5 of their season-best 11 aces in set one as Jenness posted a career- and match-best five aces.
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) added four aces while
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) and
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge) each had one.
The Blue and Gold forged ahead 7-1 in set two behind a trio of Jenness kills. The home side got within 2 at 14-12, but a service error kickstarted a set-ending 14-2 run that had three kills from
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) to give the Tomcats a 2-0 lead.
Jenness posted a match-leading 12 kills on .194 and dug five balls. Amory put up nine kills on .357 to go with two blocks and digs each.
Thiel used an early 5-0 run in set three that was capped with four straight aces from Reynolds to lead 7-4. Two more Jenness aces along with a Jordan kill made it 11-5 visitors. Back-to-back
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) kills gave Thiel the comfortable sweep to remain atop the PAC North.
Reynolds had a match-best 28 assists and added six digs as her offense hit .304. Jordan pitched in eight kills on .286 while DeLattre mashed nine kills on .389 and had a block.
Thiel held a 43-28 edge in digs and had a pair of blocks (4 BA) to hold Geneva to .065 hitting. Aulet dug a match-leading 13 balls.
Alex Ball (Clymer, Pa./Indiana Area) added seven digs and
Macie Williams (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) had five.
The Tomcats are back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. at Franciscan in cross-divisional PAC action.
