TRAFFORD, Pa. (Oct. 13) -- Thiel College freshman quarterback
Keller Herzberger (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake Senior), following his historic performance last Saturday, was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday evening.
Herzberger, in his first collegiate start, set a single-game program record with 447 passing yards in the Tomcats' home PAC clash with Geneva last week. Herzberger's passing-yards mark is the most by any DIII freshman this season, the second most of all NCAA freshmen in 2025 and the eighth most in PAC history.
He threw five touchdowns, the second most in program history, and ran for one to account for six TD's, which is tied for the most in Thiel history. The Tomcats' offense put up 38 points, their highest output since 2016.
Herzberger completed the fourth most passes in Thiel history (31) on 52 attempts, which is sixth most in Tomcats lore. He led three straight touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, all of which lasted less than 1:30. Herzberger amassed 220 of his passing yards in the fourth quarter alone.
Herzberger is the first Tomcat since teammate
Joseph Fell (Warren, Ohio/Champion) in 2023 to be named Newcomer of the Week.
Football looks to get in the win column Saturday at 1 p.m. against PAC-rival Westminster.
