GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 10) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team posted a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17 sweep Friday evening over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) South Division foe Waynesburg University on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats improve to 5-0 at home, there best start to a home slate since 1984 when they won there first 12 home matches. The Tomcats rise to 12-4 (7-1) as they continue there best start to league play since 2022. The Yellow Jackets dip to 2-17 (0-8).
Thiel used a 5-1 spurt in set one that had a trio of kills from
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) to pull ahead 18-12. Waynesburg got within 3 at 21-18, but an
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) kill capped a 4-0 set-clinching run to put the Tomcats up 1-0.
Jenness logged a match-best 15 kills and hit .308. She nearly totaled as many kills as Waynesburg did as a team (17). Jenness added a team-leading two aces and a pair of digs. DeLattre logged seven kills on .308 to go with three digs and one block.
Thiel jumped to an 8-5 set-two lead on a
Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) solo stuff. Waynesburg used a 7-2 run to jump ahead 14-12 before Thiel answered with 5 of the next 6 and 10-of-12 to climb ahead 22-16. The Jackets responded with the next 3 points, but a
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) kill squashed the run as a pair of Waynesburg errors gave Thiel a 2-0 lead.
Stephens set career highs in total blocks (six) and solo blocks (two) while adding a dig and a kill. Jordan notched six kills, five digs and one ace.
The Tomcats used an 8-0 run in set three with
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge) at the service line to lead 17-9.
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) and DeLattre had a combo block in the spurt. Waynesburg got as close as 5 down on a pair of occasions late in the frame before a 4-1 spurt that featured a Stephens / Amory stuff block gave Thiel the sweep.
Aulet tied for the match high with 10 digs as the Tomcats held a 56-44 advantage in digs. Amory notched six kills, five digs and two blocks.
Alex Ball (Clymer, Pa./Indiana Area) had a match-leading 11 digs while
Devin Rhoads (Franklin, Pa./Rocky Grove) added six.
Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) dug five and
Macie Williams (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) dug four.
The Tomcats had 6.5 blocks as a team (2 BS, 9 BA) and held the Yellow Jackets to -.087 hitting.
Carlie Reynolds' (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) offense hit .176 as she dished out a match-high 31 assists and dug four balls.
Thiel returns to action next Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the road at Geneva in PAC North action.
