ERIE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team defeated the Alfred Saxons and Fredonia Blue Devils in the Penn State Behrend Tournament Saturday afternoon.
With both wins, the Tomcats remain unbeaten to start the 2024 season.
Game 1: Thiel 3, Alfred 2
Thiel reverse-swept Alfred, dropping the first two sets 21-25, 16-25, before winning the final three sets 25-17, 25-19, 15-12.
Thiel was led by
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) who recorded a team-high 14 kills and three blocks.
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) recorded nine kills, while
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) recorded nine kills and six blocks.
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) notched 35 assists and a team-high 18 digs, while
Erica Gregory (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser) and
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) recorded three service aces each.
Alfred was led by Taylor Malone who notched a game-high 17 kills and two service aces. Jamie Chun recorded a game-high 21 digs.
Game 2: Thiel 3, Fredonia 1
In game two, Thiel won the first set 25-19 before dropping the second set 22-25. However, the Tomcats won the next two sets 25-21, 25-16 to take the match.
Freshman
Aaleeah Brennan (North Port, Fla./Florida Virtual School) recorded a game-high 12 kills and five service aces. Reynolds recorded six service aces and 38 assists, while Aulet notched a game-high 22 digs.
Kelly Peplowski (Hubbard, Ohio/Ursuline) recorded three blocks.
Fredonia was led by Erin Callahan who recorded 11 kills and one service ace. Molly Cassidy recorded 17 assists and five service aces, while Kailea Sullivan recorded 21 digs.
The Tomcats will head to Hiram on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
