Box Score MONACA, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team defeated the Penn State Beaver Lions, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon to move to 3-0 on the season.
Thiel go on the board first through graduate student
AJ Trobek (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard), before two first half goals for Penn State Beaver gave the hosts a 2-1 lead at halftime.
The Tomcats answered swiftly with
Grant Becker (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) scoring his first collegiate goal to tie the score at 2-2.
Derek Thomas (Poland, Ohio/Poland) gave the Tomcats the lead in the 75
th minute, before
Neko Hatton (Bryans Road, Md./Henry E. Lackey) added an insurance goal in the last minute of the game.
The Tomcats outshot the lions 51-17, including 25-10 in shots on goal.
Thiel was led by Trobek, who recorded 10 shots, seven of which were on goal. Freshman
Mitchell Strauss (Bradford Pa./Bradford Area) recorded nine shots and notched two assists, while Hatton recorded three shots and one goal.
Penn State Beaver was led by Robert Chauvenne who recorded both of the hosts' goals.
In goal for Thiel,
Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) recorded eight saves.
For the Lions, Quentin Wertz recorded 21 saves.
The Tomcats will look to improve to 4-0 when they travel to Pitt Bradford on Saturday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
