Tomcats fall to Titans on homecoming

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College football team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Westminster Titans, 58-6, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Westminster took the ball first and marched down the field with an eight-play, 69 yard drive to take a quick 7-0 lead.

Thiel got their first drive of the game, but could not get anything from it.

On the ensuing punt, Westminster's Brice Butler returned the punt 64 yards for the touchdown to give the Titans a 14-0 lead.

Westminster would take a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter on a three-yard touchdown run.

A field goal and a touchdown would give the Titans a 31-0 lead at halftime.

Thiel started the second half with a three-and-out.

Westminster first drive of the second half resulted in a touchdown, with the Titans covering 40 yards in six plays, capped off by a two-yard touchdown run.

On the ensuing Thiel drive, a fumble on the third play of the drive recovered by Westminster gave the Titans excellent field position inside the Tomcat 20 yard-line.

Westminster would then be able to punch in the Thiel turnover to take a 44-0 lead.

The Titans would score 13 points in the fourth quarter.

For Thiel, freshman quarterback Robert Doyle (Crowley, Texas/Arlington Heights) scored his first collegiate touchdown on the last play of the game, capping of an 8-play, 59-yard drive to finish the game.

Thiel was led by Doyle who went 4-for-4 with 57 yards and a rushing touchdown. Daniel Rennie (Cape Coral, Fla./Oasis) went 9-for-12 for 43 yards.

On the ground for the Tomcats, Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) led the team with 72 yards on 14 carries. Marquis Tarver (Dickinson, Texas/Clear Falls) rushed for six yards.

Adam Kreais (Fostoria, Ohio/Hopewell - Loudon) led the Tomcats receiving, catching two passes for 31 yards. Ja'mani Morales (Ocala, Fla./Lake Weir) caught one pass for 24 yards.

Defensively, Jake Badger (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) recorded 10 tackles, including an assisted tackle for a loss. Luke Faber (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) recorded seven tackles, including two tackles for a loss, while Jaellen Rose (Midlothian, Va./James River) recorded six tackles.

For Westminster, Ty McGowan went 14-for-19 for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

On the ground for the Titans, Ryan Gomes ran for 60 yards in 12 carries. McGowan rushed for 31 yards, while Sean O'Shea rushed for 31 yards.
Through the air, Gomes caught one pass for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Kevin Wright recorded five tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss. Wesley Donner recorded three tackles, including a sack.

The Tomcats are idle next weekend, before returning to Alumni Stadium on Saturday, October 12 against the Allegheny Gators. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
