GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team defeated the Saint Vincent Bearcats, 2-1, in their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener.
The first half was scoreless, before three second half goals would be all that was needed.
Sophomore
Carson Maurer (Poland, Ohio/Poland) got the Tomcats on the board in the 50
th minute after he was able to head the ball into the net off of
Mitchell Strauss's (Bradford Pa./Bradford Area) corner kick.
AJ Trobek (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) gave the Tomcats a two-goal lead in the 62
nd minute after
Hunter Blatt (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) flicked the ball into the path of Trobek, who made no mistake.
Saint Vincent got one back in the 80
th minute, but it would not be enough.
Thiel was led by Trobek who recorded one goal. Strauss recorded an assist, his seventh of the season, which ties the program record for most assists in a single season. Blatt recorded an assist, andn recorded one shot.
Saint Vincent was led by Oziel Bonola-Soriano who recorded on goal. He also recorded four shots.
In goal for Thiel,
Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) recorded five saves.
In net for Saint Vincent, Kameron Rock recorded four saves.
The Tomcats will head to Chatham on Wednesday for a conference matchup. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
