GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team defeated the Penn State Behrend Lions, 3-0, Wednesday night at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel won with set scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-20.
The Lions rattled off five straight points to open the match, before the Tomcats responded with six of their own.
Later in the first set, Thiel went on a 4-0 run that sealed the first set victory.
In the second set, Thiel found themselves down 14-9. The Tomcats closed the second set on an 11-5 run to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, the Tomcats had an 11-8 lead before a Lions 7-0 run gave them a 15-11 lead. Once again, the Tomcats closed the third set with an 11-3 run to seal the 3-0 win.
Thiel was led by
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) who recorded 14 kills and five digs.
Erica Gregory (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser) recorded 10 kills and 17 digs, her fourth straight double-double.
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) recorded two blocks, giving her 100 career blocks.
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) recorded a game-best 35 assists, while
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) recorded a game-high 28 digs.
Devin Rhoads (Franklin, Pa./Rocky Grove) recorded two service aces.
For Penn State Behrend, Cadence Jones recorded 15 kills and 13 digs, while Brynne Smith recorded five service aces. Smith recorded 23 assists, while Sara Nobach recorded 20 digs.
The Tomcats return to action on Tuesday when they host the Pitt-Bradford Panthers. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
