GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team defeated the Carlow Celtics, 4-0, Friday night at Alumni Stadium to open the 2024 season.
The Tomcats may have had to wait an hour and 56 minutes to finally kick off, but they wasted little time to score, putting one in the back of the net just four minutes into the game through graduate student
AJ Trobek (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard).
Trey Grazier (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) recorded his first collegiate goal in the 24
th minute to give the Tomcats a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Freshman
Andy Mangold (Bradford Pa./Bradford Area) scored his first collegiate goal in the 52
nd minute, assisted by fellow freshman
Mitchell Strauss (Bradford Pa./Bradford Area). Senior
Hunter Blatt (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) finished off the scoring in the 61
st minute.
The Tomcats were led by Blatt, who recorded a goal and an assist. Trobek recorded a goal, while Mangold recorded a goal and an assist. Strauss recorded two assists in his collegiate debut.
Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) recorded one save in net to record his second career shutout.
Carlow was led by Gavin Moore who recorded one shot one goal.
Alex Remington started for Carlow, recording five saves. Zac Kolich played the second half, notching three saves.
The Tomcats are back in action on Saturday when they host the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats at Alumni Stadium. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
