FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to the Fredonia Blue Devils on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Fredonia won game one 6-5, before taking game two 4-2.
Game 1
Thiel went down 4-0 in the third inning, before getting on the board in the fourth to make the score 4-1. Thiel added another in the fifth, before Fredonia went into the seventh inning up 5-2.
A three-run ninth inning for the Tomcats tied the game at 5-5, before the Blue Devils walked it off.
Thiel was led by
JT Gerle Jr. (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) who went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Fredonia was led by Tucker Schwab who went 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Brady Ventura went 2-for-3 with and RBI.
Brock Matthews (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) got the start on the mound for Thiel, going four innings. He struck out two batters.
Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and
Josh Daum (Tionesta, Pa./North Clarion) both pitched in relief.
Michael Byrns got the win for Fredonia, going six innings, striking out four.
Game 2
Thiel got off to an early 1-0 lead off of a Bintrim sacrifice fly. Fredonia responded quickly, however, taking a 2-1 lead through one inning. Fredonia added a run in the third inning that closed out the game.
Thiel was led in game two by Bintrim who went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Gerle Jr. also recorded an RBI, while
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) went 2-for-3.
Fredonia was led by Alex Gannon who went 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI. Christian Pagano also recorded an RBI.
Dillon Belknap (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) got the start on the mound for Thiel, going 1 2.3 innings, striking out four.
Nick Ondo (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) and
Archie Teconchuk (Warren, Pa./Warren) pitched in relief.
Owen Ludwig started for Fredonia, going four innings, striking out two.
The Tomcats will return to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday when they travel to Franciscan for a doubleheader. The PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
