STUEBENVILLE, Ohio – The Thiel College baseball team won a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games on the road against the Franciscan Barons Saturday afternoon.
The Tomcats won the first game 17-6, before taking game two 13-3. Both games went eight innings.
The Tomcats amassed 30 runs on 36 hits over two games against Franciscan.
Game 1
Thiel took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, before Franciscan scored four in the bottom half of the inning. A swift response saw the Tomcats score seven runs in the second inning that would give the Tomcats the lead for good.
Thiel would add a run in the third, six in the seventh and two in the eighth. They also recorded 23 hits.
Thiel was led by
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) who went 4-for-5 with five RBIs.
Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
JT Gerle Jr. (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) also went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Nine Tomcats recorded hits, with eight of them recording two or more hits.
Franciscan was led by David Ferroni who went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. Diego Perez went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Peter Falconite went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) got the start for Thiel, before
Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) went 6 1/3 innings, striking out four and only allowing two runs, earning the win.
Giovanni Rococi (Farrell, Pa./West Middlesex) went one inning, striking out one.
Peter Cavalieri earned the loss, going two innings, allowing eight runs.
Game 2
Once again, Thiel started strong, going up 2-0 in the first inning. Five more runs in the third inning, with two more runs in the fourth gave the Tomcats the lead for good.
Thiel was led by Prunty who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Jacobs went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while
Yoshinori Hashimoto (Tokyo, Japan/Arakawa) went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Rococi recorded his first collegiate RBI, while
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Franciscan was led by Samuel Tyler who went 2-for-3 RBI. Dylan Robb went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Brady Rzodkiewicz (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) earned his first collegiate win, going six innings with three strikeouts.
Blake Gibson (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) and
Dennis Fedele (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) each pitched an inning of relief.
Wade Stoehr went four innings for Franciscan, allowing nine runs.
The Tomcats head to Penn State Behrend for a non-conference game on Sunday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at noon.
