Tomcats walk-off game one, split with Golden Tornadoes

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Monday afternoon at Tomcat Park.

The Tomcats won game one 7-6 in walk-off fashion, before dropping game two 14-7.

Game 1
The first three innings were quick, as there was three hits combined. Then, Geneva took the lead in the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Thiel responded in the fifth inning, tying the game at 2-2. Thiel took the lead in the sixth inning through Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union), who doubled to center field.

Geneva quickly responded, tying the game up in the seventh, before taking a 6-3 lead in the top of the ninth.

The Tomcats got their first to batters on base by virtue of a walk and a hit by pitch. Then, Kolten Kruszewski (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) drove in Jacobs, before Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) hit a two-run double to right center to tie the game up at 6-6. Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) took a 2-2 pitch through the left side to drive in the game winning run.

Thiel was led by Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) went 1-for-3 with and RBI and a walk, while Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) went 1-for-5 with an RBI.

Geneva was led by Zack Sackett who went 1-for-5 with two RBIs. Zach Lemansky went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) got the start on the bump, going 6 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Josh Daum (Tionesta, Pa./North Clarion) earned the win, going 2 1/3 innings.

Caleb Graft got the start, going eight innings with four strikeouts. Lemansky pitched the ninth inning, allowing the final two runs.

Game 2
Thiel got off to a good start, scoring three runs in the first innings. Geneva answered in the second, before Thiel went back up by three in the third inning. Geneva would score eight runs over the next three innings to but the game out of reach.

Thiel was led by Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) who went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. JT Gerle Jr. (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) also recorded an RBI.

Geneva was led by Josh Hull who went 2-for-5 with five RBIs and a homerun. Zack Sackett went 4-for-6 with two RBIs.

Garrison Martin (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch) got the start on the bump for the Tomcats, going four innings, allowing six runs and striking out two. Mason Suss (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold), Nick Ondo (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) and Ethan Binrtrim all pitched in relief.

Ryan Conover got the start for Geneva, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up five runs and striking out three. Cael Brandt went 2/3 innings, while Jeff Hawkins earned the win after going four innings of one-run baseball.

The Tomcats hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday against Fredonia. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
