GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader Sunday against the Saint Vincent Bearcats at Tomcat Park. Saint Vincent won the first game, 10-0. Thiel won Game 2 in 10 innings, 6-5.
Game 2: Thiel 6, Saint Vincent 5 (10 innings)
The Tomcats trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman catcher
Marsha Foreman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Bonita Springs) led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to left center field. She scored on
Alaina Fedder's (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) double to right center.
Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) singled and scored on a fielder's choice by
Brianna Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau), which cut the lead to 4-3.
Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) tied up the game when she smashed a triple to center field, which scored Rottman.
The eighth and ninth innings were scoreless, but the Bearcats took the lead (5-4) in the top of the 10
th on a sacrifice fly.
Heid led off the bottom of the 10
th with a single up the middle, which moved
Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) to third via the international tiebreaker. Next up,
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) drove in the game-tying run on a bunt single.
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) then delivered the game-winning hit to left center field, which scored Heid.
Herman went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double. Heid went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a triple.
Landis earned the win. She allowed one earned run on 11 hits. Landis struck out six batters and allowed two walks.
Game 1: Saint Vincent 10, Thiel 0
Saint Vincent pitchers Haley Bicko and Meghan Braun combined for six strikeouts and limited the Tomcats to one hit in a 10-0 win in five innings.
Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) led the Tomcats at the plate with a double.
Thiel will host the Grove City Wolverines Tuesday. The first game of the PAC doubleheader will begin at 3:30 p.m.
