Tomcats walk-off Lions

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team defeated the Penn State DuBois Lions, 7-6, in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Tomcat Park.

The Lions took an early lead in the first inning, before the Tomcats responded quickly through an Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), who scored Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) to tie the game up.

Penn State DuBois regained the lead in the third, before a pair of singles by Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) and Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) plated three to give the Tomcats a 4-3 lead.

Penn State DuBois tied the game back up in the fourth, before both team's traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

The Lions took the lead in the top of the ninth with a double steal that plated one.

Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) pinch-hit in the bottom of the ninth for the Tomcats, doubling to right field. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) then reached on a fielding error, scoring Sittig to tie the game up.

Bintrim then singled through the left side, before Jacobs singled up the middle that scored Brightwell to walk it off.

The Tomcats were led by Jacobs, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Bintrim went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Prunty went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Brightwell also went 2-for-5 with an RBI and scored three runs.

The Lions were led by Corey Lehman who went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Colby Bodtorf went 2-for-5, while Tyler Yough went 1-for-3 with two walks.

Dillon Belknap (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) started on the mound for the Tomcats, going 3 2/3 innings with one strikeout. Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville), Brock Matthews (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau), Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, Pa./General McClane) and Blake Gibson (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) all pitched in relief. Gibson also recorded his first collegiate win.

Jeff Romano started for Penn State DuBois, going three innings with one strikeout.

The Tomcats return to Presidents' Athletic Play (PAC) on Saturday when they travel to Washington and Jefferson. The PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
