WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games to the Washington and Jefferson Presidents on the road Saturday afternoon. The Presidents won game one 18-2, before taking game two 11-5.
Game 1: Washington and Jefferson 18, Thiel 2
Washington and Jefferson took an early 8-0 lead before the Tomcats got on the board in the fourth inning. The Presidents led the entire game.
The Presidents scored three runs each in the first two innings, before scoring two in the third. A five-run fourth inning blew the game open, followed by a five-run sixth inning.
Thiel was led by
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) went 3-for-3, while
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) and
Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) also recorded a hit a piece.
Washington and Jefferson was led by Brian Feldman who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Jacob LaDuca went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Kyle Jones recorded four RBIs.
Brady Rzodkiewicz (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) started for the Tomcats, going one inning.
Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, Pa./General McClane),
Blake Gibson (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) and
Dennis Fedele (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) all pitched in relief.
Dante DiMatteo went five innings, striking out three in the win for the Presidents.
Game 2: Washington and Jefferson 11, Thiel 5
The Tomcats took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind a
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) single and
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) single. However, the Presidents responded quickly, scoring two in the bottom half of the inning.
Washington and Jefferson took the lead for good in the fourth inning.
Thiel was led by Brightwell who went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Cole Sherwin (Karns City, Pa./Karns City) also went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jacobs and
Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) also recorded an RBI a piece.
Joey Schimizzi (Willowick, Ohio/Willoughby South) walked twice.
Washington and Jefferson was led by Drew Garth who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a homerun. Jacob LaDuca went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Brock Matthews (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) started for Thiel, going four innings, striking out three.
Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice),
Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and
Archie Teconchuk (Warren, Pa./Warren) all pitched in relief.
Ryan Rametta started for Washington and Jefferson, before Ethan Marszalek came in for five innings to earn the win.
The Tomcats will travel to Saint Vincent on Saturday for the season finale. The PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
