GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games with the Allegheny Gators Wednesday afternoon at Tomcat Park. The Tomcats won game one 9-4, before the Gators took game two 11-6.
Game 1: Thiel 9, Allegheny 4
Thiel got on the board quickly when
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) hit a two-run homerun over the right field wall to go up 2-0.
Thiel added runs in the second and third innings, before a four-run fourth inning gave the Tomcats a 8-0 lead.
Thiel added a run in the fifth inning to make it 9-0, before Allegheny countered with two runs in the sixth. The Gators added two more runs in the ninth inning, but the Tomcat lead was too much.
Thiel Was led by Jacobs who went 1-for-2 with a homerun and two RBIs. He also walked twice.
Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) went 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth),
Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) all recorded an RBI.
Allegheny was led by Brady Nolin who went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Jonathan Sharp recorded an RBI.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) got the start for the Tomcats, going 5 2/3 innings, fanning five in his second straight win.
Brady Rzodkiewicz (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) threw the final 3 1/3 innings, striking out three and only walking one to earn the save.
Walker Cunningham got the loss for Allegheny, going 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.
Game 2: Allegheny 11, Thiel 6
Allegheny took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning, before adding another run in the fifth. Two unearned runs for the Tomcats in the bottom half of the fifth inning tied the game up, before Allegheny scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings to regain the lead for good.
Thiel was led by Prunty who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks. Jacobs went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Brightwell went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Allegheny was led by Tyson Bryant-Dawson who went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two homeruns. Brady Nolin went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) got the start for Thiel, going five innings with three strikeouts.
Josh Daum (Tionesta, Pa./North Clarion),
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) and
Archie Teconchuk (Warren, Pa./Warren) all pitched in relief.
The Tomcats will play their final home game of the season on Thursday when they host the Penn State Du Bois Lions. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
