Tomcat sweep Barons

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Thiel College softball team won a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games Tuesday on the road over the Franciscan Barons. Thiel won 6-1 in Game 1 and 11-0 in Game 2.
 
Game 1: Thiel 6, Franciscan 1
 
Thiel scored three runs in the third inning and went on to defeat Franciscan, 6-1.
 
In the third inning, Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk. Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) drove in the second run when she grounded out, and Lauren Bonner (Hermitage, Pa./Reynolds) earned the RBI on the third run on a sacrifice fly to center field.
 
Bonner drove in Thiel's fourth run in the fifth inning on a double to center field. Ladd added two more runs for the Tomcats in the seventh inning on a double to left field.
 
Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and Alaina Fedder (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) both went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Ladd tallied three RBIs, doubled and scored a run. Bonner had two RBIs and doubled.
 
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) earned the win, her seventh of the season. She struck out six batter without allowing a walk. Roddy allowed one run on six hits.
 
Game 2: Thiel 11, Franciscan 0 (5 innings)
 
The Tomcats scored early and often in an 11-0 win in five innings.
 
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) gave the Tomcats the lead in the first inning when she hit a solo home run. It was her second homer of the season.
 
The Tomcats scored two runs in the second frame. Sophia Householder (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) drove in a run on a double while Brianna Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) drove in the second run on a single.
 
The Tomcats plated six runs in the fourth inning, two of which crossed the plate on a single by Heid. Brianna Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau), Makenna Oswalt (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) and Roddy each recorded one RBI in the inning on singles. Grace Thompson (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) also drove in a run on a double.
 
Herman added two more RBIs in the fifth on a double.
 
Brianna Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Herman went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Herman homered and doubled. Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) went 2-for-3 two runs scored. Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau), Thompson and Householder each doubled.
 
Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) earned the shutout win. She recorded six strikeouts and allowed just three hits.
 
The Tomcats will face the Chatham Cougars on the road Saturday. The first game of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
