Golden Tornadoes edge Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Tuesday at Tomcat Park. Geneva won 6-4 in Game 1 and 7-3 in Game 2.

Game 1: Geneva 6, Thiel 4

Thiel took the lead, 2-1, in the second inning. Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) drove in both runs on a 2-RBI single to left field.

The Tomcats extended their lead to 3-1 in the third on a Geneva error. However, the Golden Tornadoes scored five runs over the fourth and fifth innings.

Thiel picked up one more run in the seventh inning when Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) hit an RBI-single to center field.

Marsha Foreman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Bonita Springs) went 2-for-4 with a double. Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) also went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Heid singled and drove in two runs.

Thiel's Grace Thompson (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) struck out two batters and refused to give up a run in two innings of relief work.

Game 2: Geneva 7, Thiel 3

After four scoreless innings, Geneva scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Thiel responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the first of which came on Makenna Oswalt's (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) infield single. Lauren Bonner (Hermitage, Pa./Reynolds) scored the other run on a double steal attempt.

Thiel made it a 1-run game in the sixth when Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) grounded out to third base, which scored Heid.

Geneva added three runs in the top of the seventh, ending Thiel's comeback attempt.

Oswalt singled and drove in a run. Heid tripled and scored a run.

Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) struck out five batters in 4 1/3 innings.
