ERIE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a non-conference game to the Penn State Behrend Lions, 15-1, on the road Sunday afternoon.
A six-run second inning for Penn State Behrend gave them the lead for good.
Thiel was led by
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) who went 1-for-2 with the team's lone RBI.
Joseph Fell (Warren, Ohio/Champion) went 1-for-1, while
Giovanni Rococi (Farrell, Pa./West Middlesex) also went 1-for-1.
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) went 1-for-3, scoring the Tomcats only run of the game.
Penn State Behrend was led by Adam Cooper who went 2-for-5 with four RBIs. David Gibson went 2-for-3 three with three RBIs, while Silvio Ionadi going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Brock Matthews (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) started on the mound for the Tomcats, allowing four runs in the loss.
Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville),
Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, Pa./General McClane),
Nick Ondo (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic),
Mason Suss (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) and
Archie Teconchuk (Warren, Pa./Warren) all pitched in relief.
For Penn State Behrend, Jack Baumgartel went six innings, allowing just one run and striking out three to earn the win.
The Tomcats return to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Tuesday when they host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets for a doubleheader. The conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
