Tomcats pick up third PAC win against Titans

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the Westminster Titans 14-8 Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Alumni Stadium.
 
Westminster led 5-4 after one quarter, but Thiel went on to lead 8-6 at the break.
 
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) put the Tomcats up 7-6 with 3:51 to play in the first half. Hayden Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) gave the Tomcats a two-goal lead with 14 seconds remaining before halftime after receiving a pass from Briney Stilinovich (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos).
 
The Tomcats, who improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in league play with the win, led throughout the second half. It was Thiel's second conference win on the week.
 
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) led all players with eight goals. She also recorded seven ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) tallied three points (1G, 2A) to go along with four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
Heaven Fitch (Baltimore, Md./Greater Grace Christian Academy) scored two goals. Jocelyn Denihan (Conneautville, Pa/Conneaut Area) and Stilinovich registered two points apiece. Mary Cassano (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) notched game-bests in ground balls (10) and caused turnovers (5).
 
Emma Brazier scored five goals for the Titans. Nina Rascona had five points (2G, 3A).
 
Jade Hromanik made 22 saves for Westminster. Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made seven saves to earn her seventh win of the season.
 
Thiel will face the Grove City Wolverines (10-3, 5-0 PAC) on the road Tuesday. The PAC game will start at 5 p.m.
