GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team won a non-conference game over the Keuka Wolves Wednesday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome, 10-2.
Thiel improved to 3-0 for the first time in program history with the win.
The Tomcats led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. After a scoreless second frame Thiel took a commanding 8-2 lead over roughly the final eight minutes of the third quarter.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored three times over the stretch while
Jocelyn Denihan (Conneautville, Pa/Conneaut Area) also potted a goal.
Wightman scored seven goals and had one assist. She also tallied seven draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. She recorded her 200
th career goal on a man-up opportunity with 14 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Mary Cassano (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) and
Heaven Fitch (Baltimore, Md./Greater Grace Christian Academy) chipped in with one goal apiece for the Tomcats.
Tori Nelson scored both of Keuka's goals.
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made eight saves to improve to 3-0 on the year. She also recorded 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Lauren Vitello made nine saves for the Wolves.
Thiel will host the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats Sunday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at noon.
