GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team defeated the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats, 14-6, Sunday afternoon inside the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
The win extends the Tomcats best start to a season in program history.
The Tomcats got off to a slow start, as they trailed the Bobcats 2-1 after one quarter of play. However, a five-goal second quarter saw the Tomcats gain control of the game, going into the half up 6-3.
The Tomcats scored four goals in the third quarter, followed by another four in the fourth to seal their fourth straight victory.
Thiel was led by
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) who recorded 10 goals and an assist. She also added one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Heaven Fitch (Baltimore, Md./Greater Grace Christian Academy) recorded two goals, seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Mary Cassano (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) and
Briney Stilinovich (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) each recorded a goal.
In goal for the Tomcats,
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) recorded 10 saves.
West Virginia Wesleyan was led by Makenzi Lewellyn recorded two goals and four draw controls. Raveena Navalgund recorded four caused turnovers and six ground balls.
In net for the Bobcats, Ella Gomez recorded eight saves.
The Tomcats will return to action on Monday, March 18 when they take on the Davis and Elkins Senators inside the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
