Saxons top Tomcats

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team lost a non-conference game Saturday to the Alfred Saxons at Alumni Stadium, 10-7.
 
Thiel trailed by a goal at halftime (5-4), but Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored the game-tying goal early in the third quarter.
 
The Saxons responded later in the third quarter with goals by Amelia Booth and Alescia Nitti. Thiel got one of those goals back with 21 seconds remaining in the third on a man-up goal by Mary Cassano (Fairview, Pa./McDowell).
 
Briney Stilinovich (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) scored another man-up goal, on a pass from Cassano, 55 seconds into the fourth quarter to force another tie (7-7). Alfred finished the game on a 3-0 run to earn the non-conference win.
 
Wightman scored a game-high five goals to along with three draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Cassano recorded two points (1G, 1A). She also recorded seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Heaven Fitch (Baltimore, Md./Greater Grace Christian Academy) registered six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
 
Booth led the Saxons with five points (4G, 1A) and 13 draw controls.
 
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made a season-high 14 saves. Alyssa Piechota made five saves for Alfred.
 
Thiel (5-2, 1-0 PAC) will host the Allegheny Gators (1-6, 0-1 PAC) Wednesday. The conference game will begin at 5 p.m.
