Roddy earns sixth win of season against W&J

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel senior pitcher Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) earned her sixth win of the season Friday in the first game of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against the Washington & Jefferson Presidents at Tomcat Park. Roddy and the Tomcats won the first game 4-1 before falling 5-4 in eight innings in the second game.

Game 1: Thiel 4, W&J 1

Thiel took the lead in the first inning on a sacrifice bunt by Roddy, which scored Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) who led off the inning with a triple to right field.

W&J evened the score in the top of the third, but Thiel reclaimed its lead in the bottom of the third in a repeat performance from the first inning. Heid led off the third with a triple to right field and scored on Roddy's sacrifice bunt.

The Tomcats picked up a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning, one of which was on an error. Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) drove in the other run on a single to right field.

Heid went 3-for-3 with two triples and two runs scored. Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double. Roddy tallied two RBIs on a pair of sacrifice bunts.

Roddy improved to 6-2 on the year with the win. She allowed one run on six hits.

Game 2: W&J 5, Thiel 4 (8 innings)

Heid put the Tomcats up 1-0 in the first inning. After a lead-off walk, she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and scored on a passed ball.

The Presidents held a 4-1 lead, but the Tomcats closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) hit a clutch pinch hit 2-RBI single to left field.

Heid led off the seventh with her third triple of the day. She scored the game-tying run on Roddy's fourth sacrifice bunt of the day.

Mirranda Rin drove in what would count as the game-winning run for the Presidents in the top of the eighth on a single to left field. Marsha Foreman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Bonita Springs) led off the bottom of the eighth with a double. Foreman advanced to third on a passed ball, but relief pitcher Taylor Dunn got the Presidents out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts and a pop-up to earn the save.

Heid went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Heid tripled and doubled. Foreman went 2-for-4 with a double.

The Tomcats will play the Allegheny Gators on the road Wednesday. The first game of the conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
