GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team defeated the Mount Aloysius Mounties, 3-0, in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) game Sunday afternoon inside Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats won in straight sets 25-23, 25-22, 25-19.
The first set was close, with neither team leading by more than two points. But the Tomcats closed the opening set by scoring four of the final five points.
The second set was also close throughout, with Mount Aloysius opening an early three-point lead. The Tomcats pulled out the second set, scoring four of the final six points to take the second set.
Thiel took an early 7-3 lead in the final frame, holding the lead throughout the set.
Thiel was led by
James Cromwell-Young (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) who recorded 10 kills, one ace and one block.
Kaleb Proudfoot (Butler, Pa./Butler) recorded 10 kills and three blocks, while
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) recorded 10 kills and seven digs.
Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) recorded 8 digs, while
Eli Olszowka (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) recorded 39 assists.
Mount Aloysius was led by Matthew Franz who recorded 15 kills and 14 digs. Andrew Wlodarczyk recorded 11 kills and five blocks, while Evan Schmidt recorded 36 assists.
Prior to the match, the Tomcats honored
Connor McInnis (Southington, Conn./Southington) and student manager
Austin Siko as part of senior day.
The Tomcats will host the Wells Express on Wednesday in the final home game of the season. The AMCC game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
