LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – The Thiel College softball team went 1-1 Friday during play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
Thiel opened the day with a 4-2 win over the Vermont Castleton Spartans before falling 5-1 to the Minnesota Morris Cougars.

The Tomcats scored three runs in the second inning.
Haylie Kidd (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) drove in a run on an infield single.
Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) did the rest of the damage on a 2-RBI triple to right field.
The Spartans cut the lead down to 3-2 in the top of the sixth, but the Tomcats picked up an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI-single to right field by
Makenna Oswalt (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop).
Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) earned the win. She allowed two earned runs on six hits through seven innings. Landis struck out four batters and allowed one walk.
Minnesota Morris 5, Thiel 1
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Thiel tied up the game in the top of the third when Heid hit an RBI-triple to right field. Heid's second triple of the day scored Oswalt.
Minnesota Morris went on to add two runs in the bottom of the third and two more runs in the sixth.
Heid went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) took the loss. She allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings. Herman struck out one.
The Tomcats will conclude play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic Saturday. Thiel will face the Keene State Owls at 11 a.m. and the SUNY Poly Wildcats at 1 p.m.
