FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to the Marywood Pacers, 6-5 and 6-3, Thursday at the Lawnwood Complex in Fort Pierce.
Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) extended his hitting streak to eight games, dating back to last season, while
Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) extended his hitting streak to six games.
Game One
In game one, the Tomcats took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning thanks to a
Joey Schimizzi (Willowick, Ohio/Willoughby South) double down the left-field line that scored two, and a Prunty double in the third inning. However, a six-run fourth inning was enough for the Pacers to hold on for the win.
Thiel was led by Prunty who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Sittig also went 2-for-3, while Schimizzi went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk.
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) went 1-for-3 with a walk.
Christian Michak went 1-for-4 with three RBIs, while Vinny D'Auria went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) got the start on the bump in game one, going 3 2/3 innings, striking out four.
Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and
Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, Pa./General McClane) combined for 3 ½ innings in relief, striking out four and walking three.
Charlie Hamm started for Marywood, going three innings, striking out two and giving up three runs. Aidan Dolan earned the win, going one inning and striking out one.
Game Two
Marywood took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, before Thiel tied it back up on the third. The Tomcats took the lead thanks to a
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) down the left-field line, before
Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) drove in Johnson on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
However, a five run fifth inning for Marywood gave the Pacers a 6-3 lead, and they would be able to hang on for the win.
Prunty led the Tomcats in game two, going 3-for-4, while Ochs went 1-for2 with two RBIs. Sittig went 1-for-4.
Max Slusser went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a homerun. Christian Michak went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.
Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) started game two for the Tomcats, going 4 2/3 innings with four strikeouts and four walks.
Garrison Martin (Beloit, Ohio/West Branch) made his first appearance of the season in relief, while
Mason Suss (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) recorded his first collegiate strikeout in his first appearance.
Danny Tiedemann started for Marywood, going three innings. Brett Kugler earned the win.
The Tomcats will play their penultimate game in Florida on Friday against the Washington Shoremen. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
