Tomcats' rally falls short against Fighting Scots

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a non-conference game to The College of Wooster Fighting Scots, 9-6, Tuesday afternoon at Lawnwood Complex in Florida.

The Fighting Scots jumped out to a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. However, a Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) double, and a couple of walks, set the stage for Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) to hit a base-clearing double to left field, cutting the Fighting Scots lead to 7-3.

Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) drove in Joseph Fell (Warren, Ohio/Champion) to make the score 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth, but a quick answer from The College of Wooster pushed the lead back up to 9-4.
A run in each of the eighth and ninth innings cut into the lead, but the Fighting Scots were able to hang on.

The Tomcats and Fighting Scots each had 14 hits. The Tomcats also left 14 people on base, including bases-loaded opportunities twice.

Thiel was led by Sittig, who continued his hot start to the season, going 2-for-5 with a walk. He extended his hitting streak to six games, dating back to last season. Jacobs went 3-for-4 with and RBI, while Ochs went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) went 1-for-3 with two walks.

Brock Matthews (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) earned his first collegiate start on the mound, going three innings with two strikeouts and three walks. Josh Daum (Tionesta, Pa./North Clarion) pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief, while Archie Teconchuk (Warren, Pa./Warren) pitched 2 2/3 innings in his first collegiate appearance.

The College of Wooster was led by Ryan Kramer who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bryn Langley went 3-for-5, while Zack Barienbrock went 1-for-5 with two RBIs.

Isaiah Vance got the start for the Fighting Scots, going 3 1.3 innings, issuing two walks. Sammy De Maio went 1 2/3 innings, giving up three runs.

The Tomcats will play a double-header against the Marywood Pacers on Thursday. The first game is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
