GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team lost its first game of the season Monday to the Division II Davis & Elkins Senators, 12-9.
Davis & Elkins improved to 8-0 on the season with the win while Thiel fell to 4-1.
The Tomcats trailed 5-2 at halftime. Thiel cut the lead down to two goals (11-9) with 1:41 remaining in regulation when
Briney Stilinovich (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) scored on a pass from
Jocelyn Denihan (Conneautville, Pa/Conneaut Area), but Davis & Elkins added an up-goal with less than a minute to go to ice the game.
Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) led Thiel with five points (3G, 2A).
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) (2G, 1A) and Stilinovich (2G, 1A) tallied three points apiece. Wightman also recorded seven draw controls. Denihan had two points (1G, 1A).
Ari Hinton led Davis & Elkins with four goals.
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made 11 saves for Thiel. Marissa Cuevas made 12 saves for the Senators.
The Tomcats will open Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Wednesday, March 27 when they host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at Alumni Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
