Box Score 2 LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – The Thiel College softball team split a pair of games Sunday during the opening day of play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
Thiel defeated the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls 11-1 in the first game before falling 2-1 in the second game to the Kenyon Owls.
Kenyon took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) tied up the game for the Tomcats in the third on an RBI-double to right field, which scored
Marsha Foreman (Bonita Springs, Fla./Bonita Springs).
Kenyon scored what would count as the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Thiel tallied nine hits against Kenyon. The Owls were limited to three hits.
Foreman went 2-for-3 with a double. Landis went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Alaina Fedder (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) also had two hits.
Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley),
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) and
Mila Brdar (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) had one hit apiece.
Landis struck out four batters without issuing a walk through six innings. She allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on three hits.
Thiel will continue play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic Monday. The Tomcats will face the Sweet Briar Vixens at 9 a.m. and the Clarks Summit Defenders at 11 a.m.
