GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team opened its season with an 11-10 non-conference win Saturday over the Calvin Knights at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
Tied up 5-5 at halftime, the Knights took a two-goal lead (9-7) early in the fourth quarter on back-to-back goals by Audrey Booher.
Thiel tied up the game with 10:18 remaining in regulation after
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and
Hayden Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) potted goals.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored the go-ahead goal for the Tomcats on a man-up chance at the 7:23 mark. She went on to score what would count as the game-winning goal with 6:02 left in regulation.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) scored a game-high eight goals for the Tomcats. She also recorded 11 draw controls and three ground balls.
Makayla Flock (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) scored two goals in her debut with the Tomcats.
Booher led the Knights with five goals.
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) made nine saves for Thiel, including a key save in the game's final seconds to preserve the win. Margee Boelema made four saves for Calvin.
Thiel will host Mount Aloysius Saturday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game will start noon.
