Tomcats beat Lions, Bulldogs

Tomcats extend win streak to three games

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team went 2-0 Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win against Penn State Altoona and a 3-2 win against Adrian at the Thiel Tri-Match, hosted at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.

In the first match of the day, the Tomcats defeated the Penn State Altoona Lions in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match with set scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-13, 25-12.

Thiel was led by David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) who recorded 17 kills to go along with seven digs and two service aces. Connor McInnis (Southington, Conn./Southington) recorded 14 digs, while Kaleb Proudfoot (Butler, Pa./Butler) recorded 13 kills seven digs and six blocks. Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) recorded a game-high 16 digs, while Ben Lowell (Portland, Ore./Sunset) recorded a game-high 47 assists.

Altoona was led by Willem Del Priore who recorded eight kills and 12 digs. Avery Farabaugh recorded nine kills and 15 digs, while Mason Grover recorded 31 assists.

In the nightcap, the Tomcats defeated the Adrian Bulldogs 3-2 with set scores of 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 15-7.

Thiel was led by McInnis who recorded 10 kills, six digs and two blocks. JC Govannucci (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) recorded 10 kills and nine digs, while Jackson Claypoole (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) recorded five kills and three blocks. Long recorded 18 digs, while Lowell recorded 40 assists.

Adrian was led by Sam Landers who recorded 18 kills and eight digs, while Beck Fieldhouse recorded 15 kills and 12 digs. Jacob Rembulat recorded 18 digs.

The Tomcats hit the road for a non-conference game against Buffalo State on Wednesday. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
